Introduction

Kazakh belongs to the Turkic family of languages. The modern Kazakh Cyrillic alphabet has 42 letters, 9 of which do not exist in Russian.
Kazakh has no grammatical gender (the word Ол can be translated as he, she, or it depending on context). There are no prefixes, only suffixes. Stress usually falls on the last (more rarely the penultimate) syllable of a word. The Kazakh language has 7 grammatical cases.

Аты-жөніңіз кім? -What is your name?
Атыңыз кім?/Есіміңіз кім? - What is your name?
Атың кім? Есімің кім? - What is your (informal, singular) name?
Менің атым (есімім) Әлия. - My name is Alia.

The 9 specific Kazakh letters are:
The vowels ә, і, ү, ұ, ө
The consonants ң, қ, ғ, һ

Ә is similar to the German ä. Examples: Әлия, Әсия, Әкел, әпер, әже.
І is pronounced like И, but shorter. Both sounds are similar to the "ee" in "feel". Examples: бір, екі, менікі, сенікі.
Ө is pronounced like German ö. Examples: төрт, өрт, өт.
Ү " " " " German ü. Examples: үй, үш.
Ұ is pronounced like У, but shorter. Similar to "oo" in "food". Examples: ұн, құс.
Қ is pronounced deep in the throat. Similar to Arabic "qaaf" ق. Examples: қарындас, қалам, құс, Қанат.
Ғ - like Arabic "ghayn" غ. Examples: сағат, ғимарат.
Ң - like "ng" in "sing". Examples: менің, сенің, оның.
Һ - like "h" in "hot". Examples: жиһаз, Қаһарман.
