f stands for a voiceless labiodental fricative in IPA.
It is pronounced like the F in "fall".
The same sound is usually written F in the Latin alphabet, Ф in Cyrillic and Φ in Modern Greek (note that this sound didn't exist in Ancient Greek).
In Vietnamese and Greek loan words, it is written PH, and in Arabic as ﻑ.
