Bahasa Indonesia uses the same 26 characters of English language.

Vowels - Vokal

a [@] - like the u in sun

e [e]- like the e in egg

i [i]- like the ee in see

o [a] - like the o in fox

u [u]- like the oo in moon


In addition to the vokal, there are 3 diphtongs:

ai [@i]- like i in kite

au [{u]- like ou in house

oi [oi]- like oy in boy

Consonants - Konsonan

b [b]- like b in bee

c [tS]- like ch in cherry

d [d]- like d in dig

f [f]- like f in fine

g [g]- like g in agriculture

h [h]- like h in hen

j [dZ]- like j in June

k [k]- like c in cat

l [l]- like l in linux

m [m]- like m in man

p [p]- like p in part

q [k]- q like q in barbeque

r [r]- like r in bar, but with longer rrrrrr produced by vibrating the tounge

s [s]- like s in six

t [t]- like t in tie

v [v]- like v in vector

w [w]- like w in we

x [ks]- like x in X-Files

y [j]- like y in Yoda

z [z]- like z in zebra

ng [N]- like ng in king

ny [n~]- like ny in canyon

kh [x]- like Kh in Genghis Khan

sy [S]- like sh in shadow


To read an indonesian word, make sure that all vowels and consonants are pronounced clearly. Avoid the tendency to blur out certain vowels as it is common among english speakers. If you know how to speak Spanish, it would be really helpful.
