History of the Irish Language TV Programme

Postby corcaighist on 2012-06-07, 16:58

For a limited time you will be able to watch a two part programme on the history of the Irish language online on the TG4 website. It is called Scéal na Gaeilge (The Story of the Irish Language). The programme is in Irish with subtitles in English.

I actually was starting to watch that the other day, but didn't get too far, as other things came up.

I'll try again this weekend.

There are some questionable facts (the Celtic languages were definitely not the earliest IE branch to split off), but this is delightful. That narrator must be having a lot of fun.

An-spéisiúil ar fad. D'ardaigh an chlár sin cúpla pointí suimiúila nach raibh ar eolas agam.

I'm gutted I missed this programme and sadly it isn't on the TG4 player anymore. Does any of you know how to get hold of this programme?

Oh wombats! Chan eil mi cinnteach air na dh'innseas tu. (???Ni bfhuil mi cinnteach ar na labhras tu???). "Gabh mo leithscéal" - sin "Gabh mo leisgeul", no "Excuse me"; "ní féidir liom cuimhnigh cad iad na pointí suimiúila nach raibh a fhios agam anois" - "Chan fhaod mi cuimhneachadh dè na puingean ?coltach? nach robh mi eòlach orra roimhe", no "I cannae mind what the ?similar? points were that I didn't ken before"; "nuair atáim in ann é a athfheicáil b'fhéidir go mbeidh mé" - ?? 's dòcha "nuair a dh'fheuchas mi ga fhaicinn a-rithist i[is math a] dh'fhaodte gum bi mi". no "when I try to see it again perhaps I will." A bheil mi faisg air? Am I close?

Tá sé faighte agam aríst! - I've found it again!: You can watch the programme "Scéal na Gaeilge" here, (or at least I could, and I'm watching it from Spain, so everyone else should be able to as well). Bainigí sult as! - Enjoy!
