This looks like a good grammar book for Tamil:

I'm wondering if anyone knows of some comparative texts for Tamil?

Say a Comparative Grammar of Tamil and Hindi/Urdu. Or perhaps someone knows of resources IN Hindi for learning Tamil?
Interested in practicing urdu over IM services, check my profile for contact info. Big interest in Old Hindustani and Punjabi music, always uploading songs to my youtube channel.

In India, all books for non-Tamil Indians learning Tamil are in English.

As for Comparative grammars, I've only seen comparative grammars of Written and Spoken Tamil.
Written Tamil hasn't changed from the 13th Century grammatically (only alphabet has been changed), and spoken Tamil has changed a lot (as expected).

Hmm. Interesting stuff, especially about written Tamil. I was NOT aware of all of that.

And if it's as you say, that there are no comparative grammars out there, well then I guess I'll just have to make one of my own, eh?

Maybe a Punjabi/Hindi/Tamil comparative grammar. Excellent way to learn myself while also teaching others. Something to consider at any rate.

Now, can you personally vouch for any examples of English resources that stand out (for tamil learning of course)?

It depends on what kind of Tamil you want to learn. For spoken Tamil, the best book is Colloquail Tamil. For written Tamil, I think Tamil for Begginers might be good. There is also many good online courses. Here are a few you can check out:

It would be great to have another Tamil learner

When I used Colloquial Tamil, I had to slow it down to -50% in Windows Media Player (thank God for that option :rotfl: )
