English Finnish (Suomi) TAC Finnish 1 by Jayan on Thu 2009-12-31, 19:48
I did the introductory chapter of Hyvin menee! today. I love Finnish! Even naming the letters of the alphabet is beautiful! :D

Notes on “Johdantokappale”

  • Learned to pronounce Finnish words properly. Fortunately, it has a regular pronunciation, because I don’t have much audio with my resources (just radio).
  • Learned to spell words with the Finnish letter names. Not a very large adjustment.
  • Learned to count in Finnish. Anticipate a little more trouble gaining facility with numbers because of a non-Indo-European root, but that will be true of everything in Finnish.
  • Learned the -toista suffix for numbers 1-9 to form the teens.
  • Learned the -kymmentä suffix for numbers 2-9 to form the ‘-ty’s’.
  • ...
  • [/list]

English Literary translation can not be professional by kingdict on Sat 2009-11-21, 9:48
Feng Jicai told reporters that if a friend asked, to which a country should first take a look at the book, I would tell him is that these two books: one is a tourist handbook, anti-lost; another novel, to look at the 23 This familiar with the people there, and even deeper into their midst.

As a well-known contemporary writers, Feng Jicai's work in Russia has an extensive influence, he spared no effort to promote cultural exchanges between China and Russia have done a lot of meaningful things. Yesterday afternoon, he put great enthusiasm hosted at Tianjin University Institute of Feng Jicai literature and art at the "heart as a bridge of Sino-Russian literary exchange program" Academic Forum, Feng Jicai in his speech that "in the state and national contacts , the literature is a bridge, this bridge is on the frame in mind, literary communication be called a soul exchange.
Translators are great, they are cultural exchanges, to build those bridges. "

English I believe I can sing now by schnaz on Mon 2010-03-01, 7:14
Never before in my life did I think that I could sing. I knew I could not sing, until this past week when I was with my girl friend's little grandchildren. When I'm with them we get pretty loose and in the midst of our merriment I burst into song and I thought:" Wow that wasn't half bad." So today is Sunday and we are pretty relaxed and the same thing happened. I conclude that all the practice I've been doing trying to speak Chinese particularly the 2nd and 4th tones { I practice out loud as much as I can] has built up the muscles in my throat and now when I try to sing I sound good to me. I'm happy. :D

English Kuri by 邪悪歌 on Thu 2009-08-27, 17:37
I was thinking of an idea for a new conlang. It's still at the bare minimal stage right now, but here's the basic idea.
For a background of the concepts, read my other blog entry about functionals and combinators
I was thinking it would be neat if there was a language that would use combinatory logic to form meaning in the language. This language would have an inflecting nature and new words would be formed by combining other words in such a way that a verb is specific to the type of objects it operates on and can create sentences by doing function composition

so, for example, a sentence like "I am giving this to her" the sentence can be thought of in classical lambda calculus as give (I this her) . I give this to her
or in other words, a verb give, that takes three arguments, specifically I, this, and her.
now with currying, you can convert this into a function composition, something like...
give_to_her(transfer_this(I)) in which case two verbs "transfer_this" and...
