Polish-1

I must start learning Polish!
After less than a year I'm going to Krakow and it would be really nice if I can understand the language well as well as using it. I think of passing through Assimil's course firstly, although I may attend a crash course here ( in my university) in September.
My first impressions (of previous look-ups and some dialogs I heard from the audio files):
- I don't like the orthography, and probably this has kept me away from that language while I played among the Slavic family.
- From what I heard today I think that it sounds quite cute- especially the soft consonant clusters which i feared that much ^^
- Still haven't looked up the cases, I'll wait until I learn them well for my course of Old Bulgarian.
- Verbs look intriguing :)
- /added later/ The stress falls almost on the same place as in Bulgarian, which makes me feel somehow uneasy, having got used to the Czech accentuation.

All of those consonants still manage to scare me every time I see it. *nervously glances at the Polish flag on his languages-to-learn list*

Hey!

Why wouldn't you post this message in the Polish subforum. 8-)

I like the language a lot (a have a soft spot for the the Slavic family) and I opened a topic in the Polish subforum when I started learning it, so all my progress can be traced there. :)

As with all Slavic languages, it's very easy to learn to understand and to use it for daily purposes, but knowing it perfectly is as hard as any other unrelated language, since you have to learn tons of nuances in syntax and phraseology. Do you agree?

I thought of posting this in the subforum, but I'll make a thread for myself when I start writing :) As for now it would be pointless ^^
Learning a Slavic language, having one of the other as a native, is a little challange. That's why it's so interesting :D

As for me, it’s the differences in accentuation that annoy me when comparing Portuguese to other Romance languages (French excluded for obvious reasons, hehe). I used to hate pairs such as PT burocracia and ES burocracia, for instance. :P
